*This post is part of a series looking at the Psalms to encourage your heart towards singing God’s praise all throughout the day. For the rest of the series, go to: Psalms of Praise. Come along with me as we dive into the Psalms and praise God’s name together! *
Thank you for joining me again for day two of the Psalms of Praise series! I was so encouraged yesterday as I meditated on Psalm 145 and the rich character of God. What a good, faithful, gracious God that we serve! I pray your heart was drawn to praise Him all throughout the day as you meditated on His Word and sang His praise through Psalm 145.
Today we get to look at Psalm 63 together.
Psalm 63: My Soul Thirsts for You
A Psalm of David, when he was in the wilderness of Judah.
1 O God, you are my God; earnestly I seek you;
my soul thirsts for you;
my flesh faints for you,
as in a dry and weary land where there is no water.
2 So I have looked upon you in the sanctuary,
beholding your power and glory.
3 Because your steadfast love is better than life,
my lips will praise you.
4 So I will bless you as long as I live;
in your name I will lift up my hands.
5 My soul will be satisfied as with fat and rich food,
and my mouth will praise you with joyful lips,
6 when I remember you upon my bed,
and meditate on you in the watches of the night;
7 for you have been my help,
and in the shadow of your wings I will sing for joy.
8 My soul clings to you;
your right hand upholds me.
9 But those who seek to destroy my life
shall go down into the depths of the earth;
10 they shall be given over to the power of the sword;
they shall be a portion for jackals.
11 But the king shall rejoice in God;
all who swear by him shall exult,
for the mouths of liars will be stopped.
Questions to ponder as you meditate on this passage:
- What heart posture do I have as I come before the Lord? Look at David’s posture- is mine similar?
- Is God fully satisfying to me?
- Is God’s steadfast love truly better than life to me?
- How can I praise God with a joyful heart today?
Spend time responding in prayer to our great God and praising his name.
Oh God, you are my God. My soul longs for you- to behold your power and glory. Your steadfast love is truly better than all things in this life. You are all satisfying, all powerful, and worthy of all praise and glory. I long to bless you as long as I live. May my lips praise you with joy in my heart, may my soul be satisfied and cling to you in all situations, may my mind meditate on your goodness day and night. Thank you that you uphold me every moment of everyday. You are my sustainer and my only hope. Cause me to cling to you, to praise your name, and to delight in your steadfast love more than anything else in my life. I pray that all will rejoice in you for your power and might forevermore, for you are abundantly good and worthy of all praise! Amen!
If this post was encouraging to you as you spent time with God, don’t just keep it to yourself- share it with a friend! Part of my desire with this series is to encourage you to sing God’s praise in the everyday moments of life, but to also come alongside someone else in doing this in their lives as well. So think: Who could you invite to join you in spending time pondering the Psalms this week? Someone you’re discipling? Your husband or children? A friend that you know needs encouragement? Bring someone alongside you and share with one another how God is drawing your heart to praise throughout your day. And please share with me below how you are praising God through the Psalms as well. Let’s praise his name together!
“Oh sing to the Lord a new song; sing to the Lord all the earth! Sing to the Lord, bless His name; tell of His salvation from day to day. Declare His glory among the nations, His marvelous woks among all the peoples! For great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised…!” Psalm 96:1-3a
Thanks for that beautiful prayer. It brought out the essence of the psalm and got me focused on what matters most. My favorite part: “Cause me to cling to you, to praise your name, and to delight in your steadfast love more than anything else in my life.” Amen!
